Steps to Pin Reset and System Only Restore a Multi-Bay My Cloud OS 3

It will not impact data or shares on the drive.

 

Reset Button Location

The pin button on the back of a My Cloud OS 3 can be used to perform a 4 or 40 second reset.

4 Second Reset (with Power On)

A 4 second pin press will reset the:

  • Admin Password (No password by default)
  • Network Mode (default = DHCP)

The 4 Second Reset will only reset the Admin Password.
It will not reset the Admin User Name if it has been changed to from the default name admin.
Use 40 Second Reset to reset the Admin User Name.

4 Second Pin Reset Steps

  1. Power on the My Cloud.

  2. Press and hold the reset button with a paperclip or pin for at least 4 seconds.

    The drive will reboot. It may take up to 5 minutes to complete.
    Wait until the Power LED is solid blue and in a ready to use state.

40 Second Reset (Reset with Power Off)

The 40 Second Reset (System Only Restore) will reset the:

  • Admin User Name (default = “admin”)
  • Admin Password (No password by default)
  • Device Name (default = “wdmycloudmirror, wdmycloudex2, mycloudex2ultra, wdmycloudex4, wdmycloudex2100, wdmycloudex4100, wdmyclouddl2100, wdmyclouddl4100, mycloudpr2100, mycloudpr4100”)
  • SSH (Secure Shell) User Name and Password (default = "sshd" no default password, new password enforced)
  • Remove all Users except Admin
  • All Share permissions (default = Public)
  • Automatic Firmware Update (default = off)
  • Network Mode (default = DHCP)
  • Remove all Alerts
  • Active Directory configuration (default = off)
    Not supported on Mirror and Mirror Gen2.
  • mycloud.com account association (default = not configured)
  • Mobile app account association (default = not configured)
  • Backup jobs (default = not configured)
  • Installed Apps and App Settings are removed
 

40 Second Pin Reset Steps

  1. Power off the My Cloud.

  2. Remove the power cord from the drive.

  3. Press and hold the reset button with a paperclip or pin.
    DO NOT release the button yet.

  4. Connect the power cord to the drive.
     
    • Models without Power Button: Press the reset button for at least 40 seconds.
    • Models with Power Button: Press and release the power button one time while holding the reset button for at least 40 seconds.

  5. Release the reset button after 40 seconds.

    The drive will reset and may take up to 15 minutes to complete.
    Wait until the device Power LED is solid blue and in a ready to use state.

  6. Setup using the dashboard.
