Instructions to Enable Local Network Access on a My Cloud Home, My Cloud Home Duo and SanDisk ibi without Cloud Services

Español | Français | Italiano | Deutsch | Русский | Português | 简体中文 | 繁體中文 | 한국어 | 日本語

This procedure is applicable for existing users of My Cloud Home, My Cloud Home Duo, and SanDisk ibi. This procedure will only enable access via network mapped drives on a local network, and those network mapped drives will only provide data for the individual user account which has local access enabled. Up to 5 local users can concurrently access data using this method.

This method is only recommended if cloud services are not available. When cloud services are available, use the Web App for My Cloud Home or ibi.

  • How to Enable Local Network Access

  1. Locate the Hostname (preferred) or IP Address (advanced) of the My Cloud Home or SanDisk ibi on Windows or macOS using the video tutorials listed above.

The hostname follows the naming convention of DEVICENAME-[LAST6OFSERIAL].

There are two basic ways to access this hostname:

    Virtual Method:

    • Windows - Open Windows Explorer and click on “network”, devices will populate here
    • MacOS - Open Finder and show network devices

    Physical Method:

The last 6 alphanumeric characters of the serial number can be found on a sticker label on the bottom of your device. Please ensure to powered off the device by removing the power adapter from the unit before turning it upside down to view the sticker label. An example of the last 6 alphanumeric characters of a serial number of 123456 for both My Cloud Home and ibi are as follows:

    MYCLOUD-123456
    IBI-123456

NOTE: If the virtual method does not work and your device is difficult to access without risking power loss to see the bottom of the device, please utilize the IP Address method.

For detailed instructions, watch the videos above or refer to How to Get the IP Address of a WD Network Attached Storage (NAS) Device
