How to Fix the Windows Was Unable to Complete the Format Message on an External Drive



Description


Windows was unable to complete the format shows when trying to format a removable drive.

 

Common causes for the message.

  • File system not supported
  • Problem with USB Port or Cable
  • Power loss to computer while in use
  • Unplugging the drive without using the Safely Remove Hardware
  • Corrupted file system
  • Virus or malware
  • Card reader and or USB hub may be the issue

Update Operating System
